Dear Student,

Curtin was yesterday alerted to a reported assault on a female student at the Bentley Campus. This was confirmed by the Police this morning. It was a violent attack and the student has received medical care and counselling.

The attack is reported to have occurred between 2 and 4pm on Thursday 12 April in the T L Robertson Library in a female toilet area. No description of the attacker is available. All students and staff are urged to take care on the campus and to utilise services such as the campus bus and escorts to cars.

The incident was not reported to the University until yesterday when the Police were contacted by the victim?s family. The Police have interviewed the student and Curtin Security is working closely with the Police to investigate the matter.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious on Thursday afternoon is asked to contact Security on 9266 4444.

Security in the Library is in the process of being upgraded as part of the $2.5 million boost to security funding announced last year. This incident is distressing and all students are reminded that free counselling services are available by contacting the University Counselling Service on 9266 7850.

The University remains committed to ensuring the campus is as safe an environment as possible.
